On the clock

Today I used Adobe Connect to introduce the entire team of project managers, including those in Washington D.C., to the status reports I created and the wiki I am working on to house all their collateral. I was a little surprised to find that the entire meeting of nearly 20 people had been for this one purpose. Everyone seemed pleased with the work I had done, especially after they clarified that they are not being asked to change their status reporting with existing clients.

I have been meeting weekly with my field supervisor. He’s really great and is teaching me a lot. One thing I haven’t really been able to pin down though is whether he thinks I am moving really slowly or really quickly. Every week he asks me what percentage of my 125 hours I have left. Maybe that’s just the way he thinks after all these years of hours reporting. It’s new to me to think about my work that way. He really likes to see how much progress can happen in the ten hours a week, but sometimes he catches himself being a slave to the clock and comes up with educational information architecture topics to discuss with me.

I’m going to have to make major progress on Monday to keep up with last week’s progress. Today I got the news that my supervisor’s boss had seen the wiki, and seen the opportunity to get some documentation on a new product out to project managers. This is within the scope of the project, but not exactly content I had made a place for in my wiki design. With this one suggestion, I realized that my original design was not made to expand the way a wiki must do. I know what I will be mulling over as I do housework this weekend.
